The Short Answer
You can change a marriage even when only one spouse is willing to start. Focus on what is yours to own: your reactions, your walk with God, and how you show up. Marriage is a system, so when one person changes consistently, the old patterns cannot run the same way. Many spouses who joined CCM alone saw their husband or wife come along later.
Going first is not weakness
It is easy to believe the marriage cannot get better until your spouse changes. That belief keeps a lot of good people stuck for years. The truth is more hopeful: you are not here to get a better spouse. You are here to become a better husband or wife, and that is fully within your control.
Going first is one of the clearest ways to show you are serious about your marriage. It is also what Jesus modeled. He did not wait for us to get it together before He loved us.
Stop building the case
When one spouse is reluctant, the other often starts collecting evidence. Every missed moment becomes proof. That posture feels justified, but it locks both of you in place. Try trading the case for curiosity. What is your spouse protecting? What has made engaging feel unsafe or pointless to them?
Change your side of the dance
Marriage is a system. If one person changes their steps consistently, the dance changes. Respond instead of reacting. Make repairs quickly when you get it wrong. Practice appreciation out loud, because what you appreciate appreciates.
Do this for months, not days. A commitment is just a string of choices.
Find a room that supports you
Trying to change alone, with no support, is exhausting. Inside CCM we have husbands who joined without telling their wives at first, and wives who were dragging their heels before calling it the turning point of their marriage. Our separate husbands and wives calls give you a place to grow even when your spouse is not ready.
One important guardrail: taking responsibility for your side never means tolerating abuse. If you or your children are unsafe, get to safety first and call 911 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233.

Common questions
Can I join CCM without my spouse?
Yes. Many members join first. You will get the husbands or wives calls, the couples calls, every course, and the community.
How do I invite my spouse without pressuring them?
Share what you are learning by how you live, not by lecturing. Invite them to listen to one episode of the podcast with you, or to sit in on a replay. Change in you is the most persuasive invitation.
Is it biblical to keep working on a marriage when my spouse won't?
Scripture repeatedly calls us to love and serve first, as Christ did. That always operates inside the boundaries of safety and truth. Faithfulness is not the same as enabling sin.
